This Past week, I was in Lillehammer, Norway with Bryan Fletcher, Billy Demong, Brett Camerota and our coaches. We just got done getting in our final preperation for the first world cup event of the year. We had several jumping sessions on the large hill in Lillehammer as we will have a competition there at the beginning of December. Also we were able to get more session on X-C skis since there wasn't enough to ski in the U.S.A. We are now heading to Kuusamo/ Ruka which is in Northern Finland. This is a very fun event, being it is the first world cup of the year, you never know how well you are doing against others. It will be good for me and the rest of the team since there isn't to much expectations for the first competition. I will be excited to see how well my Fitness has progressed since the summer. I am excited to see if my jumping as improved to a much higher level, which would make things easier in the racing part of competition.
I will try my best to update after every competition. Also I will be taking pictures and having our pt take pictures during races and comps. Stay tuned Taylor

So this past week, I had some time to go home and do some training at home on my own. It had been a while since I had been back, and it felt like the right time to go home and visit family. With my departure for Norway and Finland in a couple weeks, It would be a while before I could go back. So last week, I headed over, knowing the that skiing wouldn't last very long in park city, but wouldn't have a problem skiing in Steamboat. The first couple days there, I would get up and make a nice breakfast, then head up to Rabbit Ears pass. Up high there (9000ft) there is plenty of snow from recent snowfalls, that the skiing was amazing for this time of year. The only problem with skiing up there, is the altitude. Being so high, It is much harder to ski at an easy pace due to the elevation. So it was very important for me to make sure I was going slow enough so I could still stay in my zones for proper training!
Further in the week, I had a small block of intensity. Since Rabbit Ears was too high, I had to resort to doing them on rollerskis. After skiing on snow for a full week, it was a sad feeling having to go back to pavement instead of mother nature. The good news, was I had a good teammate with me to do the intervals with. Having Todd Lodwick, to ski next too, was a good thing for me. Todd has been in the sport for a very long time, and I feel like he might have some good insight to help improve my cross country even more! The last intensity session I had was on my own. While the guys in park city were doing a time trial, I had to do one in Steamboat. Starting at 930 am, I started the Sanctuary time trial, that is hard enough to make you dead for the rest of the day. At just over 9 kilometers, the course starts out climbing from the get go. With not many places to rest, it really tests your endurance levels and total fitness. I was please to see that I had my best time with some of the toughest conditions. To say the least, I feel that I am in very good form and it is only getting better heading into the first world cups of the year. On November 18th, the season starts as we depart for Norway and Finland!!! Stay tuned for more updates! Taylor |
